The sculptural work "Cifrados" is composed of four sculpted heads, each with embedded plates on their surfaces. These plates contain a message written in braille using the author's characteristic mirrored writing technique. However, this braille message is illegible to a blind person, adding an element of redundancy to the artwork. This redundancy reinforces the central concept that each individual sees what they want to see, even when presented with signals or messages that cannot be properly interpreted.
Each sculpted head represents the diversity and uniqueness of humanity, with unique facial expressions that reflect a wide range of emotions and perspectives. The plates embedded with illegible braille invite viewers to reflect on how our perceptions and predispositions can affect our understanding of the world around us.
"Cifrados" challenges us to consider how we interpret information and how our own limitations and biases can influence what we see and understand. The redundancy of the illegible braille underscores that each person has the capacity to select and filter information according to their own beliefs and desires.
Ultimately, "Cifrados" serves as a reminder of the importance of self-reflection and openness to new perspectives. It invites us to question our interpretations and to consider the possibility of exploring beyond our own perceptual limitations to gain a more comprehensive and objective understanding of the world around us.
